Pakistan is a victim of heat waves. During a hot summer day survival is difficult not only for humans but also for vehicles. Protecting your vehicle is important in these harsh weather conditions.

1. Exterior

Using windshield sun protector is a way to keep your car cool and stop sun damage, it’s the simplest and easiest form of protection for the exterior of your car. Your car’s exterior is that the most uncovered and vulnerable part of the vehicle to the tough rays of the sun and may have the most harmful effects. It’s suggested that you avoid parking your vehicle completely exposed within the sun for long. It not only damages your paint but also takes a toll on the tyres, while increasing the cabin heat. While a closed garage is the ideal solution, not many have that luxury. So, park the vehicle under any shade to shield it from direct sunlight. Furthermore, make sure your vehicle is polished with wax periodically. Waxing every six months will keep the car safe and shielded against strong UV rays.

2. Interior and Maintenance

Your car’s interior also takes a toll within the summers. Make sure that you get the inside cleaned thoroughly within the summers, also including floor mats, dashboard and AC vents. It also tends to get dusty during summers in Pakistan, so it’s best advised to keep your windows powered up during the season. It’s advised to thoroughly service your car before the summers. This includes checking all the fluid levels and topping up where necessary including the transmission, differential and brake oil. Change the air cleaner during the service or catch on completely cleaned. Make sure to wash your radiator and get rid of all the dust, grime and insects, so it can effectively channel cool air. Always remember, never open a hot radiator cap when checking the coolant level within the reservoir. Allow your car to cool down before doing so. So, when your car goes for servicing, make sure to ask the technician to recheck all perishable parts of the car, including any rubber wiring, caps, wires etc.

3. Tyres

An under-inflated tyre tends to protrude and put unnecessary pressure on the sidewalls, which will cause the tyre to eventually blow. On the opposite hand, an over-inflated tyre results in a scarcity of grip. Keep a tab on the lifespan, health and pressure of your tyres in order to extract maximum usage out of them.

4. Batteries

Batteries tend to lose more charge during the summers than they do in winters. Summer heat also can cause car batteries to overcharge, which can adversely shorten the life of the battery. The heat could also cause the interior battery fluid to evaporate. So, to keep your battery running smoothly, make sure to stay it clean. Remove any dust or grime that has accumulated around the battery base or the terminals. Also, if you’re not using the car for a few days, it’s advisable to detach the cable for the said period. Check up for any cracked or loose wires, which can drain the battery.

Follow these tips, and your car will be safe and secure from the severe Pakistan heat and maintain its reliability for years to come!
